PLEASE NOTE: THIS MOWER WAS SOLD BUT TWO MORE IDENTICAL IN APPEARANCE - 1 HAS A ROBIN SUBARU MOTOR IS DUE IN MAY

Hi, up for sale is my Fully restored, 100% new Scott Bonnar model 45 17inch cylinder mower.

It is in better than new condition.

Before I start rabbling on, this is no dodgy job and you will not find an other restored one in the same condition. Not even new…so please read through as there is heaps of info!

I have spent heaps of time and money on this mower perfecting it to better than original new condition and have used the best new parts from quality suppliers, and anything that I cannot do perfectly, I have handed on to professional services.

I have currently restored 3 model 45’s this being my 4th.

I have also done around 30 mechanical repairs for the model 45s, 3 for model 65’s a few Alroh’s, A Webb and an Atco and have sold most on ebay

For a Domestic mid sized lawn you cannot go past a Scott Bonnar model 45. They are easily, by far the best, no other model or brand  is a comparison. They are simple, really maneuverable,  extremely reliable, cheap and easy to fix when something happens to go wrong. Parts are readily available from most Decent mower shops for both the Briggs and Stratton motors and the mowers wear and tear parts itself.

The mower before:

The mower itself has not changed a bit and has got all the parts that belonged to it on it. It has not been mixed and matched.

It came with the Briggs and Stratton 2.5 hp engine and has got the same one on it now only working better and fully tuned and restored.

Mower presents better than new – wait to you hear it in operation – pure perfection!

What has been done:

Firstly the mower was tuned mechanically to perfection, all adjustments set to makesure the mower was in perfect operational condition. The motor received a dose of carby clean to makesure the carby was in spotless condition before restoring. The motor also recieved new carby to tank gasket

Next the mower was stripped down completely, into a parts box and degreased thoroughly.

The chassis, deflector, side plate, clutch cone, handle bar plate, bed blade, cylinder were taken down to to a professional sandblasting service where they were sandblasted and primed in steel primer.

The Briggs and Stratton motor was tuned to perfection on my motor bench where new petrol tank to carby gaskets were made, carby was cleaned ( received a does of carby clean and toothbrush scrub) and new b&s airfilter along with a new Champion cj8 sparkplug. The aircleaner also was sprayed with aircleaner foam treatment

The motor was then stripped down into pieces (ie. Carby, petrol tank, cowling, and bare motor where it was sanded down to bare metal with wet and dry sandpaper.

Next step was to reprime motor and chassis pieces at home with Galmet Steel Primer which is easily the best steel primer around for the job. This was done 2 times and 1 week apart ( to allow paint to harden ) to makesure top coat would apply beautifully.

(please note that all paint was sprayed with a professional air compressor with 328lpm flow..once again, not your $300 compressor from bunnings as it does not achieve the same result…this is the real thing and big…takes up half the garage. The spray gun is also no cheapie.

After primer was left to harden for roughly 2 weeks the first thing I sprayed was the rear rollers ( which were pulled apart completely, cleaned and lubed)

The bed blade and clutch cone to drive cog was also painted in Galmet Satin Black, (in between gloss and matt) where it was left for a week where the final coat was applied.

I then sprayed the chassis, deflector, sideplate, clutch cone and catcher ( genuine rover catcher which was factory black) in Galmet Hammertone Avacado green where it was once again left to harden for a week before final coat was applied.

The cylinder was then put on a homemade cylinder rotisserie where it was sprayed with Galmet super red. Once again left for week then recoated.

Here comes the best part – well its my favourite to spray…the motor

The cowling cover Briggs and Stratton motor was then colour matched down at a paint store to a  Galmet orange which was tinted to match.

The cowling, petrol tank, motor, carby was sprayed with this.

The alloy parts ( height adjuster, clutch lever ) were polished and buffed then coated in clear coat to maintain its polished look.

Reassembling:

After paint was let to harden for roughly about 3 weeks, I ordered a completely new nut and bolt kit for the mower. Nearly Every nut and bolt has been replaced. Front plastic roller end caps have been replaced to allow no movement through the front axle to help with precision cutting. All felt seals and bearings have been replaced to ensure perfect operational condition along with a new front steel cylinder for aesthetic purposes.

The clutch cone lining as well as the clutch pads have had new cork pads fitted and glued and engage and disengage perfectly.

Also…now heres something

original Scott Bonnar pentagon stickers were found and photoshoped using Adobe Cs5 (computer program) .

The scott bonnar or SB handlebar stickers were remade.

I then sent these in to a professional sticker place where they reconstructed these and applied the pentagon stickers to vinyl where the sticker is actually only the white bits and is not filled in…leaving no glary/reflecting bits when in the sun.

The SB handlebar sticker is just the same as the original just new and on thick heavy duty 3m plastic.

The verdict:

Absolutely Stunning…..

The colours are absolutely top notch and the paint quality is as good as what a quality spray painter would achieve.

As the chassis was done in Galmet Avacado green hammertone there is no imperfections in the paint what so ever. By the way ( hammertone doesn’t necessarily need to be primed but due to me being picky, I decided to prime it to get a perfect finish.

The engine just looks simply unbelieveable!  No orange peel ( ripply affect)

And the stickers …well what can I say.

As I said earlier on..it would be a lot better than new:

Red Rovers are simply a joke – they are so cheap and nothing like the original Scott Bonnars (talking from experience, soon as you start wheeling them around you can feel the difference)

All parts that typically wear were replaced..just to name a few ( nylon throughout bush, clutch linings, felt seals, bearings etc.)

The original Scott Bonnars would have been lucky to have 2 coats and they certainly weren’t primed. So it is better than new.

Any questions don’t hesitate to contact me. Also a Robin – Subaru engine can be fitted if desired.

If you are after a larger, more commercial cylinder mower,  I have an Alroh Nayjon 24inch cylinder mower listed and a Scott Bonnar model 65 30inch also.

Pickup from Mt Colah but you can arrange courier/freight and I will package it as best as possible for a slight amount.

Happy Scott Bonnering and Don’t miss out!
